Latest Information from Queensland Baptists
Further to the restrictions handed down from the National Cabinet, effective as at midday yesterday 23 March 2020, we have updates from Queensland Health that require further consideration and adherence to.
In the Non-essential Business Closure Direction from the QLD Chief Health Officer, in accordance with emergency powers arising from the declared public health emergency (Section 362B of the Public Health Act 2005 QLD), we see that churches are clearly included in the definition of non-essential business.
We also see restrictions placed on non-essential business from operating or undertaking business during the period of the declared public health emergency, including operating at a private residence.
In the case of church gatherings conducted on church property, the provisions on mass gatherings relating to maximum allowable numbers are overruled by the non-essential business directive. We cannot run church events on church property even for less than 100 persons.
What about our home group ministries?
With the ambiguity in the latest restrictions from a National and a State level, we encourage churches to implement new virtual meeting arrangements, using platforms such as Skype or Zoom for small groups to connect with one another from the comfort of their own homes.
Can we keep having our usual prayer meetings at the church property?
Churches would need to consider this carefully and be able to maintain only very small groups with 1 person per 4 square metres. Some churches are choosing to continue running regularly prayer meetings via phone/video conferencing.

We are all starting to appreciate how wonderful and easy it was to gather and be connected with each other especially on Sundays. This renewed appreciation of being connected creates the opportunity for us to be more deliberate and creative.
Three questions to consider:
Worship – How are you and your family connecting with God?
Mission – Who are the 3-4 people beyond the church community who you are maintaining connection with?
Community – Who are the 3-4 people within the church community who you are maintaining connection with?
I’ve already heard a few great stories about how you’re staying connected
What’s the best ways to connect? Consider using phone, FaceTime, Skype etc because we get to hear each other’s voice.

The first week of viewing our talks on our website was really well received! Thanks for all the great feedback. A huge thank you to Bruce Daniel, Mick Wilson, David Fyfe and Pastor Michael for pulling it all together at such short notice.
Let’s all agree to view the messages at the normal church times of 9am and 6pm. It will be encouraging to think that we are still all meeting at the same time.
For our morning service we are intending to have an order of service to follow which is very similar to a Sunday morning including worship videos, update and children’s activities.
For night church, Pastor Michael is looking to host a watch party
At the top of our website, there is now a Giving tab.
On the Giving page, you will find information on setting up a direct debit or making a funds transfer.
Here’s a verse Sandra shared with a few of us last Sunday:
“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
